Volunteer_Team As visitation and pressures on federal lands increase, so does the need for agencies to better engage with volunteers in Southern Nevada. By working collaboratively, competition among agencies and organizations for volunteers has been reduced, and effectiveness increased. SNAP partners work seamlessly in joint recruitment by partnering with University of Nevada, Las Vegas. There is now efficient oversight of volunteers through a central clearinghouse, funneled through the volunteer website (www.GetOutdoorsNevada.org). The volunteer program builds on existing relationships, developing new partnerships with groups such as Clark County, Friends of Nevada Wilderness, City of Henderson and more.

VOLUNTEER FOR GREAT AMERICAN CLEAN UP, SATURDAY, MARCH 6

Great-American-Clean-up Lake Mead National Recreation Area volunteers will be among the 2.3 million volunteers participating in Keep America Beautiful's Great American Cleanup happening in 15,000 communities nationwide on Saturday, March 6. Boulder Harbor will be the focus of this year's event at Lake Mead and will be from 8 am to 12 pm.

Last year 122 volunteers cleaned one square-mile of park land at Government Wash. They removed 500 trash bags of litter and 300-pounds of glass.

The Great American Cleanup creates a nationwide synergy as it empowers citizens to make the country a more beautiful place to live.

South of Boulder City Clean-up
(Wilderness Area)

Date: Saturday, November 14, 2009

Volunteer Work Type: Clean-up, replacing rocks and restoration

Come help us restore a Wilderness Area just outside of Boulder City. We will be removing debris, replacing rocks and restoring the desert back to it's natural state. We really need your help to make this clean-up happen!

We will be meeting at the Lake Mead National Recreation Area Headquarter's building, 601 Nevada Way, at 8:00 AM Saturday morning. and returning by noon.

Wear a hat, closed toed shoes, long pants, and sun screen. Gloves, water and other safety equipment will be provided.

Las Vegas Boat Harbor Beach Clean-up and Eco Dive

Las Vegas Boat Harbor and the National Park Service are co-sponsoring a beach clean-up and eco dive in the Las Vegas Boat Harbor area. Individuals, families and groups are welcome to participate in the beach clean-up. Beach clean-up registration begins at 8 am, with the event beginning at 9 am. Volunteers will clean-up land around the boat harbor and will return for lunch at 12 PM.

Divers must show a current PADI certification ("C" card) in order to participate in the eco-dive. Registration begins at 7 am for divers with the first dive at 9 am.

Las Vegas Boat Harbor will be providing lunch and a raffle for any volunteer helping out with either a beach clean-up or the eco-dive.

Volunteers at Six-Mile Cove: Father and daughter

Make A Difference Day at Lake Mead

Contribute your time to help protect one of the most serene areas in the park, while enjoying a day at the lake. Come and take part in the beautiful fall weather and help clean up this special area. We will have fun and the environment will benefit from our efforts.

6 Mile Cove is located 15 miles east of Searchlight on Lake Mohave. This spectacular area overlooks the largest portion of lake. We will have magnificent views of the Nelson Wash and Spirit Mountain wilderness areas. We need your help to keep our wilderness areas pristine.

This volunteer event is perfect for those who want to get involved and make a difference. Come for the clean-up event, spend the day or spend the night. This is a popular camping area with bathrooms and plenty of beaches to spread out and enjoy other recreation like canoeing and kayaking.
