In order to understand the preferences of current and future visitors to public lands, the SNAP Recreation Team completed two social science surveys:
- National Visitor Use Monitoring: Survey of Recreation Patterns and Characteristics and
- Survey of Hispanic and Latino Public Lands Use in Clark County.
Funded by the Southern Nevada Public Lands Management Act, the survey results will guide future recreation and outreach plans.
Survey of Hispanic and Latino Public Lands Use in Clark County
While the NVUM survey provided data for existing users, SNAP identified a need to fulfill another information gap: recreation preferences of non-users of public lands and the growing Hispanic and Latino community. This study was conducted to better understand the reasons behind use and non-use of federal lands and to gather information that can be used to improve the perception of natural resource recreation and use by the Hispanic population of Clark County. Further, the study will provide information to the Southern Nevada Agency Partnership in order to develop culturally appropriate outreach plans.
