A visitor to Red Rock Canyon NCA reported that an archaeological site had been vandalized in the Lost Creek Area. The vandalism consisted of spray painting over petroglyphs and pictographs as well as several rock faces at the archaeological site. Local media was brought in to increase public awareness of this crime and the story appeared in newspapers across the country.
Detectives from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department were already investigating this "tagging" crew for other cases of vandalism in the Las Vegas area. A joint investigation was started. The Special Agents assigned to the case investigated leads generated by the tip line and coordinated the investigation at the archaeological site. Detectives and officers of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department began interviewing members of this "tagging" crew and were able to identify a suspect. Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for the suspect, a seventeen year old male, and the United State's Marshals Service arrested him
