Law Enforcement Attends Career Fair 4/21/2011
The SNAP Law Enforcement Team was invited to the 1st Annual UNLV Law Enforcement Career Fair on April 20th. Thirty-four Federal, State and Local law enforcement agencies were represented and it was attended by more 400 students.
Red Rock NCA Vandalism Suspect Caught and Charged 2/4/2011
Detectives from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department were already investigating this "tagging" crew for other cases of vandalism in the Las Vegas area. A joint investigation was started. The Special Agents assigned to the case investigated leads generated by the tip line and coordinated the investigation at the archaeological site. Detectives and officers of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department began interviewing members of this "tagging" crew and were able to identify a suspect. Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for the suspect, a seventeen year old male, and the United State's Marshals Service arrested him
Red Rock Moves Forward After Graffiti Vandalism 12/11/2010
Las Vegas – The Las Vegas community's outrage at the graffiti vandalism at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area (NCA) is translating into numerous offers for assistance to help restore the three prehistoric rock art panels damaged in the Lost Creek Children's Discovery area. NV Energy and the Red Rock Canyon Interpretive Association have pledged $5,000 each to restore the site. “Offers of assistance have been pouring in after the vandalism,” said Robbie McAboy, Red Rock Canyon NCA's manager. “We are thankful for the people who have offered to volunteer their service and equipment to repair the damage.”
Rock Art Damaged at Red Rock Canyon, Reward Offered 11/29/2010
Las Vegas – Three prehistoric rock art panels were vandalized with graffiti recently at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. Both pictographs (paintings and drawings on rocks), and petroglyphs (drawings scraped and ground onto the surface of the rock) were severely damaged.
Man Charged with Removing Petroglyph from Federal Lands 2/10/2010
Michael Cook, 57, of Pahrump, is charged with one count of violating the Archaeological Resources Protection Act. If convicted, Cook faces up to two years in prison and a $250,000 fine. He is charged under the felony provisions of the statute because the archeological resource is valued at more than $500.
