The Let's Get Healthy Nature Prescription Initiative is an innovative outreach program that encourages children and families to go outside, helps fight obesity, and promotes health in Southern Nevada. This program is a collaboration of local federal land managers, educators and medical professionals.
Free time in nature can enrich children's lives by making them healthier and happier while inspiring a lifelong appreciation for the outdoors. Spending time in nature can help children get more exercise, reduce stress, improve concentration, make children more attentive in school, and help in healthy mental and physical development.
Health professionals have begun "prescribing" nature and referring families to local parks and nature centers as well as the Desert National Wildlife Refuge, Red Rock Canyon NCA, Lake Mead NRA, and Mt. Charleston / Spring Mountains NRA.
