LAS VEGAS - On June 1, 2010, the Southern Nevada Agency Partnership (SNAP) had the honor of hosting First Lady Michelle Obama at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area (Bureau of Land Management) for the launch of the Let's Move Outside! campaign. This campaign is part of the Let's Move! initiative focused on battling childhood obesity and inactivity. Let's Move Outside! encourages children and their families to get moving by taking advantage of public lands such as national parks, national wildlife refuges, national forests, national conservation areas, and national recreation areas across the United States.
The event highlighted programs and activities that families can do to get outside, have fun, and learn more about recreation in southern Nevada. With the help of the UNLV Public Lands Institute and the Winchester Cultural center, SNAP invited children taking part in the Families in Nature program to enjoy an afternoon with the First Lady. Families in Nature is a program developed by SNAP and the UNLV Public Lands Institute aimed at getting families outdoors and educating them on recreation opportunities and stewardship practices throughout the region.
Members from all four federal land management agencies (Bureau of Land Management, National Park Service, US Forest Service, and US Fish and Wildlife Service) worked together with other community partners to coordinate a successful event.
