The Pinto Valley Wilderness is geologically complex, composed of volcanic, carbonate, sandstone, and classic sedimentary rocks all stirred together by major fault systems and cut by major drainage's. Desert Bighorn Sheep are prevalent in the area as well as golden eagle, peregrine falcon, red-tailed and cooper's hawk. There are also a number of sensitive plant and animal species such as the Las Vegas bear poppy, threecorner milkvetch, stick buckwheat, and the banded Gila monster and desert tortoise.
